BAR, jumped off perch to ground when we walked in. All food LO. Brought inside for PT under 5% ISO and oxygen via mask. Mostly immediate full extension at elbow, wrist ~100deg and stiff. Started working out wrist well but felt shift/crepitation close to joint. Consulted SC and got new radiographs - discovered another closed oblique fracture, fresh and very distal, almost involved with wrist. Can see a possible 'notch' on distal ulna in Monday's radiographs; may have been where this fracture started. Given preexisting trouble with wrist extension, malunion distal fracture, new fracture, and blindness OS, this bird has a very poor prognosis and new fracture will impede wrist mobility even more once healed. Opted to humanely euthanize with 1.0cc Pentobarbital IV while under ISO.

| Weight: 3094 grams, Keel score: 2.5 Transferred from Holly's Nest Animal Rescue. Found HBC in Chatham County on 1/11. Reported bird would accept food if held near/above eye level but would not eat on his own. ------------- PHYSICAL EXAM FINDINGS ---------------- Head Behavior and Neuro: QAR Mouth: clean Beak: callus on lower L mandible Ears: clean Body Vent: clean Body condition score: 2.5 Wings Left ulna and radius: ulna fx in two places, closed, mobile Left elbow: dark green bruising, leads up humerus Right wing: wnl full ext Legs Left leg: wnl full ext Right leg: wnl full ext Left remiges: feathers near alula bent/damaged Ectoparasites: none seen Bird presents mostly QAR but strong and reactive to visual stimuli. Immediately noted condition of OS - very cloudy, pupil completely dilated & fixed in position, limited to no normal anatomy visible. L elbow is bruised dk green, soft swelling, with more bruising leading up the humerus. Crepitation felt while attempting to extend wing, swelling palpated on distal and midshaft-proximal ulna, radius intact. Head hung briefly while we picked him up to move. Anaesthetized under ISO and oxygen via mask for radiographs - confirmed two fractures of L ulna, decently aligned. Mandible fx unclear, will get better images at another time if necessary; callus doesn't seem to have caused any issue. Wrapped L wing, drew blood from R ulnar vein, collected cloacal & choanal swabs for HPAI PCR testing. Normal recovery. Large old scab on neck; picked off, some scar tissue underneath and very small soft tissue wound; did not bandage. Finished tx and set up in R10s. His head was drooped to his chest for some time and he started falling to his side, then startled and righted himself, held head normally. Treatment --------- 1.80 terbinafine PO 0.60 torb IM 120cc LRS SQ FF 2 m, ~40g total Fig 8 wrap L wing Bumper R wrist Plan --------- Monitor neuro symptoms. Continue treatment for mild emaciation and ulna fx. Consult with ophthalmologist on Thurs about OS and consult vets about potential surgical repair.
